14 karat gold watches are popular because they combine the beauty of gold with the durability and affordability of a gold, silver, and/or copper alloy.  14K is the most common type of gold jewelry sold in the United States for this reason.  Although 18K gold has a richer color than 14K gold, it is slightly softer and may scratch easier.
